De-Frenching our Family Room...

We are in the process of re-working our family room, since we are going for a more casual, masculine, Tudor-lodge-y feel, versus the current French-y feminine feel.  Right now, we have a light beige trellis rug layered with a leopard rug, the walls are BM Palladian blue, with French doors, an intricate light wood with gold stain chandelier, and an ornate fireplace surround.  The coiffures are currently a light pine-color with a white-wash stain...very French feel...I am always swapping out the throw pillows from a monochromatic chocolate brown and cream scheme, to pops of color, with blues, oranges, greens and/or pinks.  Although I have enjoyed designing this room, I have come to terms with the fact that is not so user-friendly for my 'cowboy' husband, Bob. We just engaged a designer to help with this transformation.  She has presented us with various wonderful ideas to 'de-French' this room and make it more inviting, casual, warm, and cozy.  She had a wonderful idea of staining our coiffured ceiling a darker, walnut shade, which I love, and re-doing the fireplace surround with wood paneling or stone.

The 'BEFORE' pics, of the room right now...

I am envisioning a masculine, lodge-y, vibe like the photo below...from Traditional Home (note, darker stained beams)...
