Fav Golden Globe Dresses 2013

Well, it is that time of year again, RED carpet season!  My true love of watching these awards shows stems from my appreciation for good film and television: the hilarious comedies (Modern Family), the edge of your seat suspense films (Argo, have not yet seen this, but clearly it was a big hit tonight at the GG!), the insightful period pieces (Lincoln, Downton Abbey), the bizarre-yet-highly addicting creative series (Breaking Bad), the incredible acting (Daniel Day Lewis)....but let's face it, the fun reviewing-of-the-red-carpet-gowns is just the icing on the cake!

Favorite of the BLACKS:

Love the simplicity and modern feel of this dress...Focal point is clearly the Deco-like sleeves, graphic, shapely....balanced by a simple floor length sheath. Divine...
Obsessed with Helen Mirren's gown...love its unique, figure-flattering design, gold detail. Perfection.

Similar to Helen Mirren's dress, I LOVE the gold details in this unique gown on Kate Hudson...Minimal jewelry seems appropriate as 'collar' beautifully frames her face...
Julianna Margulies's intricate, beaded, delicate, and feminine dress is stunning.
Generally not a huge fan of either Kristen Wiig or cut-outs, but this dress was simple, reasonably tasteful, and very flattering on her....
Although I have not seen HBO's Girls, it won several awards this evening...not too familiar with this actress but LOVE the figure flattering 'architecture' of this dress and the modern incorporation of (assumed) leather fabric....perhaps a tone-on-tone "fabric block" design?

Favorite of the COLORS:

Naomi Watts looks amazing in this deep red/burgundy gown....simple, chic, timeless....my favorite of the bold colored dresses...
Adorable Jennifer Garner looked radiant in this beaded strapless deep red gown...
LOVED the cheerful coral color and luxe fabric of this stunning gown on Jessica Alba ...could she possibly be a real person?  Flawless.
Loved adorable, spunky, and fun Julie Bowen in this one-shoulder teal blue gown...
Have not yet seen her in Silver Linings Playbook, but Jennifer Lawrence looked smashing in this bold salmon-colored strapless gown....The belt highlighted her tiny waistline and hourglass figure...

Gorgeous emerald strapless gown and loved the geometric/Deco lines...

Favorite of the NEUTRALS

Heidi Klum - another one of these "is she really a human?" seemingly flawless Hollywood celebs... she is glowing in this one-shoulder flowing white gown with gold trim along the neckline...the gold beading/sequins nicely complement the tone of her hair.
Sadly, I do not know who this actress is, but this delicate beaded nude-colored gown is just gorgeous! Prefer this style to the more common nude strapless (as seen in the below four gowns)...Love it!

I initially did NOT include Amy Adams' gown in my list of favorites, but after seeing another perspective of her dress, how could I NOT? The fishtail is a bit extreme, in my opinion, (to the point of looking uncomfortable) but she looks amazing in this photo!  The nude color is also very flattering to her skin and hair tones...

Megan Fox looks amazing in anything, really...
Connie Britton looks beautiful in this simple yet glamorous gown...
Again, simple, classic, yet glamorous...

Favorite of the METALLICS...

Perhaps I am biased since I love Michelle Dockery in Downton Abbey, but I love the style of this gown...actually, more than the color-block detail....I think it would have been more lovely in either all gold or all white....but it is unique and beautiful on her nevertheless...

Emily Blunt looked gorgeous in this gilded confection...Looked much better live versus in photo...the cut-out was an edgy yet tasteful detail to the dress...AND it must be noted she gave a great performance in Salmon Fishing in Yemen! One of my fav actresses...

Dresses with potential BUT...

This dress had potential until the designer accidentally forgot to cut the otherwise adorable sheer polka-dot fabric off at the appropriate bottom of the dress (above the knee)....OR, continue to the floor with the solid black fabric...Either of these two options would have produced a beautiful, timeless gown.

Loved this dress, and LOVE Sally Field, but just didn't love this dress on HER....the plunging neckline seemed a bit too young for her....but she is beautiful and her performance in Lincoln was amazing!!
Love the color, fabric, and style of this dress, but it seemed a bit ill-fitting on Taylor Swift....perhaps not the best gown choice for her, but beautiful dress...

My NOT so favorites....

I am seriously wondering WHO allowed gorgeous Halle Berry to wear this horrendous dress this evening...not sure which is worse: the oddly placed cutout at hip or the bizarre pattern that looks like spilled grape juice that was soaked up by a newspaper...
This gown has potential without the strange (sheer or is it a cut-out) at her rib-cage...just makes her stiff personality seem even stiffer (if that were possible)
Jennifer Lopez was actually the first headline I read claiming that she "outshines the rest"....Yet, I disagree.  She could look amazing in anything, but this just screams "DOILY"
Jessica Chastain's acceptance speech for best actress was my favorite of the evening. So articulate, sincere, and heart-felt....YET, this gown was beyond unflattering on her adorable figure...The color is lovely against her fair skin and red hair, and the style could have been beautiful on her if it had actually fit properly.....I have seen push-up bras and other undergarments intended to help women DEFY the inevitable effects of gravity; yet, I had never before seen a dress or undergarment actually enforce/falsely suggest it! Bizarre.

Eva Longoria is gorgeous, however, I think someone accidentally stepped on her gown ripping the slit to unprecedented heights (well, unless you are Angelina Jolie, or perhaps mocking her)....
Which gowns were YOUR favorites?
