Last night we rented The Way with Martin Sheen and his son, Emilio Estevez. My husband was unsuccessful in his attempt to watch it en route from Vegas to Cleveland, so we followed our typical Sunday evening routine of movie watching....and, since he already downloaded it to his iPad, we atypically avoided the lengthy movie selection process of scrolling through 500 mostly bizarre 'new releases' offered via Cox OnDemand. We were a bit skeptical since we had never heard of it; however, we both thoroughly enjoyed this one! If you have ever backpacked (regardless of the degree to which you may or may not have really roughed it) through Europe or any other continent for that matter, I will venture to guarantee you will enjoy this one too! The quirky characters and scenarios are perfectly reminiscent of any travel adventure.
Sheen plays an optometrist golf-playing widower whose son decides to forgo his advanced education to travel through Europe, despite his father's wishes. This ultimately sets the stage for Sheen's sudden and tragic loss of his son, and his unintended but invaluable journey through Spain on the Camino de Santiago or "The Way of St. James". A very inspirational story with interesting and diverse characters coming together in mildly humorous scenes....if for no other reason, I highly recommend watching just to soak up the beautiful cinematography! It will transport you to southern Europe and remind you once again (as my traveling experience always has)....the more places you visit, the more places you WANT to visit!
