Since we moved into our home two years ago, I have been wanting to redo our guest bedroom, but I would like to use some of its existing elements to keep the work and cost to a minimum. I have always been a believer in living in a space for a while before rushing to redesign. This way, you can learn more about how you will use the room, how it will look in various lighting/seasons, etc. Yet, a girl can only take so many laundry folding sessions in a room with design aspects that make me want to run and hide! Ahem, first world problems, yes I know ; ) I am very grateful for a warm, cozy roof over my head, much less a guest room to re-design!
The room has a beige trellis rug and deep taupe window treatments, both of which I like. But, it has a dark, somewhat dated wallpaper and olive green painted trim, which makes the room feel rather dark and dreary. So, to play off the existing window treatments, I would like to strip the wallpaper and paint the room in a similar or a tad lighter taupe shade of wide, 18-inch stripes and freshen up the trim with the same off-white to match the rest of the house. Then, to bring a little life into the room, I would love to add orange accents. It can simply be a throw pillow, lamp, bedding trim, garden stool, etc. Just a little bit of orange goes a long way. I love the color combo of the earthy/organic taupes and browns layered with bright, cheerful pops of orange, and perhaps some graphic/animal prints to keep things lively and fun.
