As mentioned in prior posts about AMC's drama, Mad Men, one of the things I find most fascinating about the show is the vigilantly replicated period detail. Everything from the size of the apples to the types of office equipment to the tilt of their Mid-Century hats have been meticulously studied, researched, and replicated by their set and costume designers.
Prior Mad Men posts...
With respect to fashion, costume designer Janie Bryant nails it with not only accurate designs, but in my opinion, fabulous ones....Perhaps as a reflection of the social and political shifting tides of the decade, 60's fashion was all about breaking the traditional rules of the prim and proper 50's. 60's "Mod" design was all about psychedelic prints, outrageous colorful graphic patterns, mis-matched plaids and stripes. It was about bell-bottoms, mini-skirts, shift dresses, paisley, batik, and tie-die prints, pill-box hats, polyester and PVC fabrics. While we often look back laughing at this style, it was rather ground-breaking and fashion-forward for their time.
